Robotic programming in a virtual reality environment

Background

Virtual Manufacturing is a supplier of lean-based production development services. We believe in and are willing to take on the challenge of combining technology, methods and hard work around production development in order to achieve results.

 

Problem description

Some robotic applications today, like arc welding, still have difficulties to emulate an experienced manual worker. Would it be possible to teach the robot in a virtual environment by manually grabbing the arc welding gun and in such way program the robot?

 

Proposed research questions:

Research question 1: How can a robot be programmed in a virtual reality environment?

Research question 2: How can other applications benefit from the same programming solution (e.g. painting)?
